An attempt to smuggle contraband goods was foiled on 9th October by three law enforcement agencies.
The Narcotics Control Bureau with the cooperation of the Marine Police, Royal Brunei Police force and the Sea and Land Operations Unit as well as the Royal Customs and Excise Department, conducted the operation on the waters of Brunei River and a number of areas believed to be conducting suspicious activities.
The operation called Operasi Sepadu Tiga Serangkai successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle in one thousand one hundred and 48 cartons of cigarettes of various brands and 1 carton of alcoholic drinks. All of the items seized was handed over to the Royal Customs and Excise Department for further investigation and action.
Apart from being a proactive preventive step, the operation was also aimed at detecting any trans-border crime on the country's waters. Such an operation will continue to be conducted and the public is reminded that strict actions will be taken against any individual who is found to have broken the country's laws and regulations.
