The giant-sized Brunei Darussalam national flag that was hoisted since the 1st of this month in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 72nd Birthday Celebration was lowered down yesterday afternoon to mark the end of the period of hoisting the national flag throughout the country. The ceremony was held at the Open Area of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex in the capital.

The lowering of the national flag was conducted by 72 personnel of the Fire and Rescue Department and the Prison's Department, accompanied by Royal Brunei Navy personnel. The national anthem was sung by band group from Royal Brunei Police Force. The flag was then presented to Awang Mohammad Amir Hairil bin Haji Mahmud, the Permanent Secretary of Safety, Welfare and Law at the Ministry of Home Affairs as Joint-Chairman of the national committee for the celebration. Also in-attendance were Members of the Legislative Council and Awang Haji Mislee bin Haji Abdul Karim, the Brunei Muara District Officer.
