The Tourism Development Department continuously supports and encourages initiatives made by local tour operators such as Intrepid Management Services Sdn Bhd to bring in more tourists to Brunei Darussalam. With events such as Sail Brunei, it provides an opportunity for visitors to explore the destination and experience the local culture. This year, the Sail Brunei event shows an increase compared to last year, in the number of yachts coming to Brunei. 27 Sail Brunei participants from Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, France and the United States received certificates yesterday afternoon, at Kampung Sungai Bunga, Mukim Kota Batu.
The certificates were presented by Awang Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Tourism at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism. The participants arrived in the country from Miri via Kuala Belait on the 7th of July and is expected to depart the country via Serasa this Monday, 16th of July. During their 10-day stay in Brunei Darussalam, they had the opportunity to carry out various activities including taking a closer look at the daily life in Kampong Ayer and learning to cook Bruneian food. The 'Sail Brunei' event is part of a 3 month yacht rally starting from West Malaysia exploring the coasts of Borneo, including Brunei, before concluding in Sabah.
