The Ministry of Development through the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation, (JASTRe) distributed 200 recycle bags and posters yesterday morning to mark the addition of Thursday as the No Plastic Bag Day at selected business premises in Temburong District.
The delegation from JASTRe, led by Dayang Martinah binti Haji Tamit, Acting Director of JASTRe, visited Ya-Nur Trading Company Sendirian Berhad, Tian Hua Enterprise, Chop Hock Guan, Jayamuhibbah Shopping Mart and Tamu Muhibbah Aneka Selera to distribute the recycle bags and posters. The slogan for the initiative 'It Takes a Nation to End Plastic Pollution' stresses the importance of involvement from all parties in making the efforts of reducing plastic pollution a success, as highlighted by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, the Minister of Development during the Launch of Thursday as No Plastic Bag Day on the 19th of April this year. According to the Acting Director of JASTRe, it is hoped that the public can support the initiative and help to reduce plastic pollution in the country.
Toward realising the government's aspiration and policy towards making every day as No Plastic Bag Day starting the 1st of January next year, the addition of other days will be implemented in stages. Wednesday will be added as No Plastic Bag Day starting next month, Tuesday in October this year, and Monday at the end of this year.
