Muslims should unite in creating 'universal peace' and cooperate as well as discard all disputes and conflicts which can divide the ummah because the solution for terrorism is unity among the ummah. Muslim nations should focus on the education curriculum, especially at the primary level. The issues were among the highlights of a special talk by His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar this afternoon. The function also coincided with the official formation of the Brunei Darussalam Branch of the Organisation of International Alumni of Al-Azhar University.

Eariler, Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs in a speech stressed that Brunei Darussalam values the role of Al-Azhar Al Syarif in spreading the true teachings of Islam, as well as strengthening its beliefs and protecting the interests of the ummah and Islamic teachings as well as combating all efforts to bring doubt and damage it. Brunei Darussalam believes that Islamic belief according to the Ahlussunnah Waljama'ah is the right policy for the education and nationhood system, besides the Islamic Malay Monarchy, MIB Concept.

The special talk by His Eminence the Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Syarif (As-Syarif) titled 'The Challenge to Muslims in Facing the Threat of Terrorism' gave special attention to rampant terrorism because it is very significant to Islam and the ummah. Among other things, His Eminence touched on the theory of Islamophobia which certain parties wrongfully say originated from Al- Quran and As-Sunnah. According to the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, this is definitely a false perception because the main victims of terrorism are Muslims. The number of Muslim victims are higher from the victims of other turmoil's or violence in other parts of the world. His Eminence also expressed great pleasure with the al-Azhar al-Syarif alumni for their contribution to the development and progress of Islam in Brunei Darussalam. His Eminence also informed His Majesty about the plan to form a Centre for Arabic in the country and that His Majesty welcomed the proposal. In attendance were several Cabinet Ministers, Members of State Councils and Deputy Ministers.

The Brunei Darussalam Branch of the Organisation of International Alumni of Al-Azhar University among other things will act as a platform of unity and mover of activities that contribute to the country's progress and development. It is also in support of His Majesty's aspiration of the Zikir Nation and upholding the MIB Concept whose foundation is the teachings of the Ahli Sunnah Waljama'ah and the Imam al-Syafi'e Mazhab or School of Thought.
