30,000 Northern Mindanao Households Exit Poverty Support Program

CAGAYAN DE ORO — Approximately 30,452 households in Northern Mindanao have successfully "graduated" from the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), signaling their advancement to self-sufficiency, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

According to Philippines News Agency, the 4Ps focal person for the DSWD in Region 10, these households have been assessed by social workers and deemed self-sufficient based on data collected up to the first quarter of 2024. The 4Ps program, a conditional cash transfer initiative by the Philippine government, is designed to assist economically challenged families in improving their living standards and economic status. Kenneth Haze Sanchez-Lustre, the regional program coordinator, explained that the program not only boosts the economic condition of the families but also elevates their morale and overall living conditions.

During a visit to the region, DSWD Assistant Secretary for Disaster Response Management Group Irene Dumlao highlighted the program's success in 2023, with 25,904 households achieving graduation status. She emphasized that former beneficiaries continue to play a crucial role in connecting government programs and services to other vulnerable groups within the community.
