29th APPF Meeting

Brunei Darussalam will give high commitment and dedication in actively participating in discussions of mutual concern and will contribute effectively to the peace, stability and prosperity of the region as well as strive to jointly realize common goals and objectives. It is hoped that through the ‘Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum’, APPF, the country will also be able to strengthen ties with parliamentary institutions in the Asia-Pacific region. The matter was stated by Yang Berhormat Dayang Nik Hafimi binti Abdul Haadii, Member of the Legislative Council as Head of the Brunei Darussalam delegation to the 29th APPF Meeting. The conference was held online and hosted by the Republic of Korea.

 

Meanwhile, the Legislative Council has once again achieved a milestone with Brunei Darussalam becoming a Full Member of the APPF. In line with the meeting’s theme, ‘The Role of Parliaments in Strengthening Resilience in the Post-COVID-19 Era’, the 29th APPF discussed key issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic that has adversely affected all sectors of global growth. APPF as a national and international parliamentary forum, among others, plays a role in discussing matters of interest in the Asia-Pacific region countries. The meeting also passed 13 resolutions in a Joint Statement signed by the Heads of Delegation of APPF Members. Also participating were Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Jaya Dato Paduka Haji Awang Judin bin Haji Asar, Secretary to the Cabinet Ministers’ Council and Clerk to the Councils of State; as well as Members of the Legislative Council.
