Comparison Literature not only looks at the similarities and differences but also the uniqueness and elements contained in a literary work. Speaking at the 22nd MASTERA Comparison Literature Lecture Series yesterday morning, the Acting Director of Language and Literature Bureau as the Acting Chairman of MASTERA Brunei Darussalam hoped that today’s literature knowledge sharing acts as a catalyst in developing regional Malay literature.
Awang Suip bin Haji Abdul Wahab, hoped that the comparison literature lecture entitled ‘Yang Terlepas, Tersisih dan Terasing : Kajian Bandingan Penulisan Sejarah Sastera di Nusantara’ will be able to enhamce and improve the knowledge of participants’ especially youths in elevating regional malay literature.
The lecture was given by Doctor Noridah binti Kamari, Lecturer at Singapore’s University of Social Sciences and member of MASTERA Singapore. The lecture series is an annual activity of MASTERA conducted since 1997. Comparison Literature is a new discipline in literature in the South East Asian region with the focus on national literature introductions for every South East Asian country. In realising the importance of the lecture in developing regional Malay letter writing, the project’s is conducted on a rotational basis among the MASTERA member countries which was decided during the 14th MASTERA conference 2012 in Kuala Lumpur. Yesterday’s Lecture Series was organised by MASTERA Malaysia for MASTERA Brunei Darussalam.
