‘Lymphoma’ Cancer

Previously, we had reported on cases of cancer that occurred among women. However, in conjunction with the ‘Movember’ Campaign which is celebrated every November, News at 10 tonight shares the experience of a former ‘Lymphoma’ cancer patient in going through challenging moments.

Looking back on his experience as a ‘Lymphoma’ cancer patient, 27-year-old Awang Leong Weng Kit said anyone can get cancer even at a young age. ‘Lymphoma’ is a type of cancer originating from white blood cells. The White blood cells function to protect the body from different organisms such as germs, viruses, fungi and so on. At first, he was unaware of the signs of cancer and realised about it from the emergence of a Lympho in his neck together with always having night-sweats. He underwent a biopsy at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital and was informed that he had Stage 4 Lymphoma which was found in his bone marrow. He then underwent treatment at Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre.

Although the treatment process was not easy, he persevered through it. He added that support from family members and friends as well as the doctors and nurses gave him the strength to undergo the rehabilitation process with no other issues. Maintaining a healthy diet and taking 30 minute daily walks also helped in the process.

Based on statistics, almost half of the 987 new cases of cancer diagnosed in 2020 are new cases of cancer among men. According to the Ministry of Health, one in four men in the country is at risk of developing cancer during their lifetime.

Therefore, let’s work together to raise awareness about men’s health by providing support in the fight against men’s cancer.

Maintaining Cleanliness and the Environment

Islam encourages its ummah to always practice cleanliness in all matters involving oneself, family, community and country. Therefore, maintaining cleanliness should be made a culture in life whether personal hygiene, residences, mosques, public places and places to eat such as restaurants. Meanwhile, parents should guide and teach family members on hygiene aspects. Be a family that cares about cleanliness that will eventually make a society and a country that prioritizes cleanliness. This was among the contents of yesterday’s Friday Sermon titled ‘Maintaining Cleanliness and the Environment’.

In order to create a clean living environment that always looks attractive, we need to appreciate and practice the following together:

First: Be aware of personal hygiene and cleanliness at our residences, places of worship, workplaces and all public places.

Second: Every individual must be self-disciplined in taking on the responsibility of maintaining cleanliness and having a love for cleanliness.

Third: Making a culture of advising each other in terms of maintaining cleanliness.

Fourth: Use facilities provided in the best possible manner.

Hexagon Unveils Decarbonisation Confidence Index Research Report for Asia-Pacific

Decarbonisation Confidence

Decarbonisation Confidence

SYDNEY, Nov. 10, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Hexagon’s Asset Lifecycle Intelligence division announced the release of the Decarbonisation Confidence Index Research report for the Asia-Pacific region.

Vital and heavy industries including oil & gas, chemicals, power, construction and infrastructure, face enormous pressure to demonstrate meaningful decarbonising action. The report covers the constraints and opportunities for organisations to fulfil their ESG/sustainability commitments.

The Decarbonisation Confidence Index Research report is a confidence index as a leading indicator to action rather than a sustainability report calling for net zero. It is a reality check on the thought leaders trailblazing on the question of “How” when it comes to decarbonisation efforts.

Hexagon conducted qualitative and quantitative research as part of its findings, engaging with 112 senior leaders across six markets — Australia and New Zealand, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and South Korea — in the Asia-Pacific region. The report focuses on six priority areas of investigation, which collectively represent the scope of sentiment:

  • Regulation & Legislation
  • Partnership
  • Technologies
  • Talent
  • Capital
  • Operational Excellence

The research reveals that APAC industry leaders proactively spearhead innovation through investment in technologies, asset development, and distribution infrastructure at an accelerated speed. However, adopting new or emerging technologies, access to capital investments, compliance with future regulatory policy and talent is challenging velocities toward net zero. At the same time, there was a variation of sentiment across markets, the three areas where confidence was consistently lacking related to market regulation, new technologies, and access to talent.

“Sustainability is a priority for Hexagon and an integral part of our strategy and how we conduct business globally,” said Fabio Yada, Senior Vice President, Asia-Pacific at Hexagon’s Asset Lifecycle Intelligence division. “We recognize that decarbonisation is a complex process with many factors involved. It takes time and won’t happen overnight; however, there is clear momentum behind the sustainability transformation, and this report highlights the desire by Asia-Pacific companies to accelerate their decarbonisation efforts.”

“The pace of transition toward the green economy has really picked up since the ‘trifecta of tragedy’ in the bushfires, floods and COVID-19 in Australia. As a result, we have seen a boom in renewable energy, green steel, green building and architecture, and renewable transport. Plus the potential of green hydrogen ‘exporting sunshine.’ Australian exporters are keen to put the green in the green and gold,” said Tim Harcourt, the author of The Airport Economist and Industry Professor and Chief Economist, Institute for Public Policy and Governance (IPPG), University of Technology Sydney (UTS) Bosch Siemens Hausgeräte (BSH).

Hexagon believes in a world where economic growth does not come at the expense of the planet and its people and that our company should drive sustainability efforts in every aspect of business. At the very core is a powerful vision of a future where data is fully leveraged so that business, industry, and humanity sustainably thrive.

When it comes to sustainability, Hexagon maintains every bit counts — and that sustained profits and a sustainable planet are attainable. Sustainability is a by-product of what Hexagon delivers to customers. Whether it be to minimise waste on asset-intensive projects, reduce risk, prevent incidents or optimally design, plan, build and operate infrastructure or industrial facilities.

GA-ASI, SES and Hughes Team Up to Demonstrate NextGen SATCOM on MQ-9B SkyGuardian

Higher Data Rates Increase Security and Robustness for RPA

SAN DIEGO, Nov. 10, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), SES and Hughes Network Systems (HUGHES) worked together to successfully demonstrate multi-orbit satellite communications (SATCOM) using a GA-ASI-supplied MQ-9B SkyGuardian® Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA). The demonstration took place on Oct. 20, 2022, at GA-ASI’s Desert Horizon flight operations facility in El Mirage, Calif. The higher data rate SATCOM transmission featured SES’s multi-orbit satellite communications service leveraging high-throughput, low-latency Medium Earth Orbit (MEO), and Geostationary (GEO) fleet, and was powered by a Hughes HM series software-defined modem and Hughes Resource Management System.

“This demonstration proves the importance of next-generation SATCOM for operators of our aircraft,” said GA-ASI Senior Vice President for MQ-9 Systems, Fred Darlington. “As we expand into new and more intricate payloads for our RPA, we’ll require higher data rates that provide the bandwidth, security and robustness to operate our sensors.”

The demonstration used SES’s O3b MEO system that provides fiber-like carrier-grade performance, scalability, and resilience that set the path to widely leveraging open architectures and achieving network sovereignty. SES’s multi-orbit fleet that delivers global coverage, high-throughput, low-latency and increased levels of security, was leveraged to show how unmanned aircraft, such as the GA-ASI MQ-9 series, can maintain high-workload, mission-critical connectivity and resiliency, even in contested environments. During the demonstration, the connectivity service seamlessly roamed between O3b MEO and AMC-15 GEO satellites. Later this year, SES will be launching its second-generation MEO system, O3b mPOWER, to further support governments through unprecedented performance, waveform-agnostic service and enabling network sovereignty.

“We are very proud of our partnership developed over the years between SES, GA-ASI and their government customers. Innovation is the key in supporting transformational changes in the ISR services, and this demonstration is one more example of how the industry can work together to bring something special to market,” said Will Tong, Vice President of Strategic Government Initiatives and head of the Aero ISR market at SES. “Together with GA-ASI, we were able to prove out new levels of secure, flexible and high-performance multi-orbit services for ISR, with 10x performance on a significantly smaller form factor, with increased resiliency and security for the end users.”

Integrated onto the MQ-9B, the milspec Hughes HM System modem (HM400) powered the MEO and GEO SATCOM with Low-Probability of Intercept/Low Probability of Detection (LPI/LPD) modes for the resiliency necessary in congested and contested environments. Together with the Hughes Resource Management System, the HM400 automatically optimized and switched satellite signals smoothly and within seconds, demonstrating a near real-time capability that enhances the military’s Primary Alternative Contingency Emergency (PACE) planning.

“Working together with General Atomics for many years, we are pleased to support the MQ-9B program with the commercially based Hughes HM400 modem integrated as the standard for real-time communications for beyond line of sight mission opportunities,” said Rick Lober, Vice President and General Manager, Hughes Defense. “Combined with the Hughes Resource Management System, the frequency-agnostic, open architecture HM System helps GA-ASI meet their military customer’s requirements for uninterrupted, high data rate, multi-orbit SATCOM, ensuring secure information accessibility for the right people at the right time.”
