Forum to Increase Awareness on the Women’s Rights

The second session of the PREPanita Forum titled ‘Communi-Kasih: Komunikasi Adalah Kunci Kebahagiaan’, organised by the Department of Community Development in collaboration with government agencies and non-governmental organisations was extended to students at IBTE Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus.

The forum was held to raise awareness on women’s rights, and to prepare women as well as men in facing any trial and tribulation. Over 300 students took part in the forum.

Prize Presentation for 7th Annual Cyber Battle

16 teams competed at the 7th Annual Cyber Battle: Capture The Flag 2022 which was organised by I.T Protective Security Services, ITPSS, Sendirian Berhad.

Prizes were handed over by Dato Seri Paduka Haji Suffian bin Haji Sabtu, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office as Chairman of ITPSS Sendirian Berhad Board of Directors. Cripto team won the open category. Meanwhile, the Konsortium Komputeran and Informatik Borneo Category was won by Three-1d107s team from University Malaysia Sabah, who also won the Bonus Prize: Top in Borneo.

The event concluded with the certificate presentation to ITPSS for successfully obtaining the official accreditation of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard for the National Digital Forensics Laboratory, Cyber Security Brunei recently which was awarded by the American National Standards Institute National Accreditation Board.

Nationwide Hijrah Quiz Competition

The Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Mosque Youth Group was crowned as champion of the 1444 Hijrah Quiz Competition for Mosque Youths Nationwide. The competition held in conjunction with the Hijrah New Year took place yesterday morning at the Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah Mosque in Tutong District.

Prizes were presented by Awang Haji Amir Hisham bin Haji Masri, Acting Director of Mosque Affairs. The competition was jointly organised by the Tutong District Mosque Affairs Office, Mosque Affairs Department's Library Section and the Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah Mosque Takmir Committee. The quiz aimed to make mosques as a centre of beneficial knowledge for congregants and residents.

Golf Tournament Press Conference

The Golf Tournament in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 76th Birthday Celebration, will be held for 3 days from the 2nd of September at Pantai Mentiri Golf Club. It is also known as 'His Majesty's 76th Birthday International Amateur Open Golf Championship 2022'.

The matter was stated by Awang Haji Abd. Saman bin Haji Ahmad and Awang Haji Abd Aziz bin Md. Kassim, Co-Chairmen of the Golf Tournament Committee during the press conference yesterday afternoon. Open to local and foreign golfers, the tournament is divided into five categories. The participation form can be obtained at Pantai Mentiri Golf Club with an entry fee for club members of $100 and $115 for non-members. The form must be submitted not later than the 26th of August.

Operasi OPKEMAS

6 companies in Mukim Kilanas were issued with compound fines by the Planning Authority through the Department of Town and Country Planning, Ministry of Development.

The companies were found to be in violation of regulations during 'Operasi OPKEMAS'. The violations include placing, obstructing, displaying goods at the sidewalk of the business premises and at the car park. The companies were given seven days to settle the fines.

State Visit to the Republic of Singapore, 24th to 25th August 2022

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam will make a State Visit to the Republic of Singapore from 24th to 25th August 2022. The State Visit of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam is at the invitation of Her Excellency Halimah Yacob, President of the Republic of Singapore in further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

During the State Visit, His Majesty is expected to attend a Courtesy Call with Her Excellency the President of the Republic of Singapore and a Meeting with His Excellency Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore. Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Singapore share close and unique relations, established through a special friendship between Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien and the late Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore, Dato Laila Utama Lee Kuan Yew. Both countries have strong and strategic cooperation in a number of areas including the Currency Interchangeability Agreement, defence, health, education, as well as trade and investment.

11th APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting

Brunei Darussalam continues to implement efforts towards post-pandemic tourism recovery. Resumption and increased air connectivity were crucial in enabling and promoting key economic flows such as trade, investment and tourism. The Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism stated that the country is also continuously ramping up flight capacities for the ease of movement to cater for inbound and outbound travellers including transit passengers.

Speaking at the 11th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin said Brunei Darussalam has also managed to attract local and foreign investments in enhancing tourism attractions related to ecotourism efforts. Yang Berhormat added these efforts have served as an impetus to harness opportunities in economic recovery that will contribute to regenerative tourism as a way forward. With the theme 'Tourism of the Future: Regenerative Tourism,' the meeting underlined the importance of the APEC Connectivity Blue Print 2015 to 2025. The meeting also welcomed the Policy Recommendations for Tourism of the 'Tourism of the Future: Regenerative Tourism,' which reflects the concerted enthusiasm of all APEC Economies in pursuit of a strong, balanced, secure, sustainable, and inclusive growth.

Ilal Hijrah Women’s Special Forum

In conjunction with the Hijrah New Year 1444, the Ilal Hijrah Women's Special Forum was held at the Kampung Pandan National Housing Scheme Mosque. It was organised by the Kampung Pandan National Housing Scheme Mosque through the Women's Section and Youth Mosque in collaboration with the Belait District Mosque Affairs Office

In attendance was Hajah Zainab M.A. Omar, Human Resources Director of Brunei Shell Petroleum Sendirian Berhad. The forum aimed to increase knowledge on the personality of a pious women and its importance as well as role in career and the society.

Senior Citizen Activity Centre’s 5th Anniversary Celebration

The Tutong District Senior Citizens Activity Centre celebrated its 5th anniversary yesterday morning.

Throughout its establishment, several activities including religious, health, social and recreation, entrepreneurship and lifelong learning programmes were held to enhance the senior citizen's skills and share their knowledge with the people.

The event coincided with a 'Jalinan Ukhwah' with Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, former Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.

Books Presentation

The delegation from Brunei History Centre yesterday morning visited the Lamin Warisan located at Kampung Tanjong Maya in Tutong District. The visit is part of the 'Kembara Sejarah' Programme hosted by Brunei History Centre.

The delegation also handed over books published by Brunei History Centre which was presented by Awang Hanafi bin Haji Salleh, Deputy Principal of the Brunei History Centre. The books are academic books, collection of Brunei history books, Malay Islamic Monarchy books and journal monographs.

The Brunei History Centre will collaborate with Lamin Warisan in providing consultation towards documenting valuable materials found in Lamin Warisan.

Non-Halal Instant Ramen

The Ministry of Religious Affairs reminded owners, managers, businesses, product suppliers and importers to be attentive on the imported food products to be sold to the public by ensuring that Halal products are not placed together with non-Halal products. The reminder was made after an instant noodle Kyushu "Tonkotsu" Artificial Pork Flavour Ramen under the Itsuki brand was found sold openly in some supermarkets in the country.

The Syariah Affairs Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs also conducted a research and found the manufacturing company, Itsuki Foods Company Limited, which produces Kyushu "Tonkotsu" instant ramen with artificial pork flavour, also produces a variety of instant noodle products with pork-based flavours. The Syariah Affairs Department has ordered the owner of the supermarkets involved to withdraw all products from the said company from public display, to be placed in the non-Halal section.

Operasi Sepadu

The Ministry of Religious Affairs reminded all vendors in the country to ensure that the raw meat received from suppliers is halal and legal either from a local slaughter centre that has a halal certificate, a slaughter certificate and a supply licence or an importer that has obtained a halal import permit from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council, MUIB.

This was following a jointly operation conducted by the Halal Food Control Division, the Syari'ah Affairs Department and the Royal Customs and Excise Department on 5th July. The operation at a house in Kampung Kilanas found that Zuraiyati binti Haji Zainal committed an offence under the Excise Order 2006 for possessing 135.8 kilograms of chicken tails and 9.2 kilograms raw meat. She was fined $900.
