Sultan of Brunei Welcomes Singapore’s Defence Minister for Audience Ceremony
Bandar seri begawan: His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, received His Excellency Chan Chun Sing, Coordinating Minister for Public Affairs and Minister for Defence of the Republic of Singapore, at an Audience Ceremony at Istana Nurul Iman on the afternoon of August 23rd.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the meeting highlighted the close and longstanding defence relationship between Brunei Darussalam and Singapore, which dates back to 1976. This relationship has been further strengthened through formal agreements, Defence Policy Dialogue, and exchanges in high-level visits, military exercises, courses, and various aspects of cooperation. Both nations are preparing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their defence relations in 2026, underscoring the enduring partnership between the two countries.
During the ceremony, His Excellency Chan Chun Sing was accompanied by His Excellency Laurence Bay Siow Hon, Singapore High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Major General Cai Dexian, Chief of Singapore Army, as well as senior officials from the Ministry of Defence, Republic of Singapore.
