World Blood Donor Day

Brunei Darussalam recorded a consistent achievement of blood donation since 2014 with 2.7 percent of the total population in 2021. The Minister of Health in a message in conjunction with World Blood Donor Day shared that the number has exceeded the goal for the annual achievement of the number of blood donors recommended by the World Health Organization, WHO, which is in the range of 1 to 3 percent of the total population to meet the country's needs in dealing with emergencies.

According to Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, in 2021, the Ministry of Health through the Blood Donation Centre recorded 16,666 blood collection were donated compared to 16,156 blood collection in 2020, which is an increase by 3.1 percent. At the same time, actions from various parties and all communities in the country are needed to lead activities and initiatives to achieve a safe blood supply through voluntary blood donation.

This year's World Blood Donor Day brings the specific objective of recognizing and promoting the values of voluntary blood donation in enhancing community unity and social integration as well as raising awareness of the need for country's involvement in developing a sustainable and resilient national blood system. Celebrated every 14th of June, this year's campaign carries a slogan of 'Donating Blood is an Act of Solidarity. Join the Effort and Save Lives'. The slogan highlights the importance of donation and role of blood donation voluntarily in saving lives and enhance unity of the public.
