Heat Index to Reach Danger Levels in 16 Philippine Areas; Fair Weather Expected Nationwide

Manila, Philippines - The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecasts that the heat index will reach 'danger level' in at least 16 areas across the Philippines this Sunday. These conditions pose significant health risks, including the potential for heat cramps and heat exhaustion, which could escalate to heat stroke if precautions are not taken.

According to Philippines News Agency, the heat index, which measures the apparent temperature to the human body, is predicted to peak at critical levels in several locations: 48°C in Aparri, Cagayan; 47°C in Dagupan City, Pangasinan; and 45°C in Virac, Catanduanes. Other affected areas include Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, and Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, with heat indices expected to range from 42°C to 44°C. The 'danger level' for the heat index is defined by PAGASA as being between 41°C and 51°C.

Despite these extreme temperatures, the country will continue to experience generally fair weather conditions. PAGASA's 24-hour weather forecast anticipates partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers across Metro Manila and the rest of the archipelago, primarily due to the easterlies and localized thunderstorms. The weather bureau also warned of potential flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Maritime conditions are expected to remain calm, with light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas prevailing across the Philippines.
