BUTUAN CITY: A comprehensive operation named ‘Oplan Baklas’ was conducted on Monday in the male dormitory of Butuan City Jail, leading to the confiscation of approximately 1,500 kilograms of various prohibited items.
According to Philippines News Agency, the initiative was focused on eliminating illegal structures, objects, and other banned items from the jail’s premises. The operation, detailed in a BJMP-13 statement released Tuesday, also aimed to eradicate additional contraband such as liquor, cigarettes, appliances, excessive money, and lewd and pornographic materials from the facility.
The BJMP-13 noted that ‘Oplan Baklas’ had a significant impact on improving conditions within the male dormitory. By removing these illegal structures and objects, the operation helped reduce overcrowding, thereby mitigating fire and health risks. The removal of these items is expected to lead to cleaner and safer living conditions for the inmates housed in the facility.
Furthermore, the confiscation of items like liquor and cigarettes is anticipated to contribute to a safer environment within the jail. The BJMP-13 emphasized that the removal of these substances is crucial in reducing the potential for violence inside the jail, fostering a more secure and orderly atmosphere.
