BUTUAN CITY - In the aftermath of a severe earthquake and typhoon, 1,850 residents of Surigao del Sur have received financial support through the government's cash-for-work initiative. The payments, totaling PHP6.5 million, were distributed as part of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.
According to Philippines News Agency, the beneficiaries were compensated for 10 days of community work following the devastation caused by a magnitude 7.4 earthquake and Tropical Storm Kabayan. The provincial government, together with the Office of Surigao del Sur 1st District Representative Romeo Momo, facilitated the disbursement of funds in three towns.
Governor Alexander Pimentel highlighted the province's commitment to delivering financial aid through the TUPAD program, emphasizing ongoing efforts across Surigao del Sur. Each beneficiary received PHP3,500 for their community service contributions, with allocations made to residents of Cagwait, Bayabas, and Lanuza.
Representative Momo, in a separate announcement, assured that further TUPAD payments would be arranged for other towns in the province with the backing of the DOLE provincial office, indicating continued support for those affected by the natural disasters.
