Comelec Anticipates Up to 68 Million Voters for 2025 Midterm Polls
MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has projected that the number of registered voters for the 2025 midterm elections could reach as many as 68 million, based on the current pace of voter registration. This update was provided during a briefing for the program Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon by Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco.
According to Philippines News Agency, as of July 30, 4,827,794 individuals have applied to become registered voters. “With the ongoing registration trends, reaching 66 to 68 million registered voters by the May 2025 elections is feasible,” he said. Laudiangco highlighted that regions like Calabarzon, the National Capital Region, and Central Luzon have seen the highest number of registrations.
The Comelec is also focusing on reactivating voters who have been deactivated for not voting in the last two consecutive elections. Simplified processes for reactivation, including online forms and video conference oath-taking, are being implemented to encourage higher voter participation.
In addition, the Comelec has reported the deletion of 391,497 voters from the rolls for various reasons, including death and double registration. Laudiangco emphasized the importance of public cooperation in reporting deceased relatives to ensure an accurate and fair voter list.
In other related activities, Comelec has begun preparations for a plebiscite in Surigao del Sur, set for August 10, to decide on the creation of a new barangay in the municipality of Barobo, highlighting ongoing efforts to refine administrative boundaries and enhance local governance.
