Glan, Sarangani – The police in Glan town, Sarangani province, seized over PHP1.2 million worth of imported smuggled cigarettes on Tuesday evening. This operation comes amid the province's recovery from recent earthquake incidents.
According to Philippines News Agency, police director for the Soccsksargen region, the smuggled cigarettes were discovered abandoned near the coastline of Barangay Glan Padidu following a tip from a concerned citizen. The smugglers, led by Renante Galos along with two unidentified individuals, fled the scene on a motorboat as police officers approached. The contraband, believed to be from Indonesia, was reportedly intended for Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat, and was found covered in tarpaulin. The seized cigarettes are now in the custody of the Glan municipal police office. This seizure occurred in the wake of a magnitude 4.9 earthquake that struck Glan, Sarangani on Tuesday morning, which followed a tremor that resulted in four fatalities and 61 injuries. The earthquake also affected six regions in Mindanao.
