Brasilia: The 61st Meeting of the Programme for International Student Assessment Governing Board (PISA-PGB) took place at the Brazil International Convention Center in Brasilia, Brazil, from April 8 to April 10, 2026. Organised biannually by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the meeting saw participation from over one hundred representatives of OECD member countries and economies, alongside associate and partner countries. The agenda primarily focused on the latest developments of the PISA 2025 analysis and the upcoming launch of the PISA 2025 Report in September 2026.
According to Radio Television Brunei, Doctor Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Permanent Secretary For Core Education at the Ministry of Education, represented Brunei Darussalam at the meeting. Her Excellency K¡tia Helena Serafina Cruz Schweickardt, Secretary of the Basic Education Department of Brazil, officiated the meeting, representing the Minister of Education, His Excellency Leonardo Barchini. Key discussions included assessment frameworks for PISA 2029 and the integration of artificial intelligence technology in future PISA assessments.
The meeting also explored coordination efforts between the PISA assessment and the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC), focusing on literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving competencies among adults. Updates on PISA-VET, the assessment for vocational education and training, were shared, along with deliberations on the OECD's long-term strategy in education and skills. Administrative topics, including work programmes, budget allocations, and the extension of the PISA Mandate, were also addressed during the three-day event.
