Post: Philippine Fashion Showcased on SONA Red Carpet

QUEZON CITY — The red carpet at this year's State of the Nation Address (SONA) at the Batasang Pambansa Complex became a vibrant showcase of Filipino craftsmanship and heritage textiles, as lawmakers and dignitaries donned traditional and modern Filipino designs.

According to Philippines News Agency, Senator Raffy Tulfo and his spouse, Rep. Jocelyn Tulfo, highlighted Filipino symbols and materials in their attire. Senator Tulfo wore a Rajo Laurel-designed barong featuring motifs from the Philippine flag and the anahaw leaf, while Rep. Tulfo appeared in a terno made from Champagne Gold Silk Lamé, inspired by Philippine shells.

Senator Loren Legarda, known for her advocacy of local weaves, chose a Maria Clara-inspired ensemble crafted from vintage piña fabric from her personal collection. The outfit was designed by Puey Quiñones and included a panuelo and a multilayered skirt with sunburst electric pleats over embroidered and beaded piña tapis. Legarda emphasized that her ensemble celebrated the artistry of Aklan's weavers.

Senator Grace Poe wore a white terno gown of silk crepe with two-toned beadwork, and Public Attorney's Office chief Persida Acosta opted for a gray Maria Clara-themed attire with red floral prints, designed by Fidel Marquez, symbolizing peace, unity, progress, and good health for the Filipino people.

In a related interview, Acosta praised the efforts of the administration, rating its performance at nine out of ten. She highlighted the administration's engagement with marginalized communities and support for farmers and fishermen.

Cavite 2nd District Rep. Lani Mercado, accompanied by her husband Senator Bong Revilla, wore a modern dress made from inaul, a hand-loomed fabric from Maguindanao, showcasing the colors and craftsmanship of Mindanao.

The event was attended by over a thousand dignitaries including government officials, members of the private sector, NGO representatives, and foreign diplomats, with notable attendees like Japan Ambassador Kazuya Endo, United States Ambassador MaryKay Carlson, and others, reflecting the global interest in the Philippines' political and cultural developments.
