Obama Supports Biden After Challenging Debate Performance
Washington, D.C. – Former President Barack Obama expressed his support for President Joe Biden following a challenging performance in the first presidential debate of 2024 against Donald Trump. Despite Biden’s struggles during the debate, Obama emphasized the broader implications of the election.
According to Philippines News Agency, who shared his thoughts on the social media platform X, “Bad debate nights happen. Trust me, I know.” During Thursday’s debate, Biden, who served as vice president under Obama from 2009 to 2017, experienced difficulty with his speech and maintaining his train of thought, which has intensified discussions about his capability to serve another term at the age of 81. Obama reinforced his support by contrasting Biden’s lifelong commitment to public service with Trump’s self-centered approach. “This election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself,” Obama stated.
In response to the debate, Biden acknowledged his age and performance issues at a rally in North Carolina but remained resolute about his capabilities. “I know I’m not a young man. I don’t walk as easy as I used to. I don’t speak as smoothly as I used to. I don’t debate as well as I used to, but I know what I do know – I know how to tell the truth,” Biden said, reaffirming his commitment to truthfulness and effective leadership.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump claimed a significant victory in the debate at a rally in Chesapeake, Virginia, criticizing Biden’s performance and questioning his competence rather than his age. “As you saw on television last night we had a big victory against a man who is trying to destroy our country,” Trump declared, emphasizing that the election stakes remain high.
