National Executive Chess Tournament Scheduled in Laguna

MANILA: The Atty. Elpidio Bautista Jr. National Executive Chess Championship, organized by the Philippine Executive Chess Association and the Rotary Club of Nuvali, is set to take place on December 30 at the Vista Mall in Santa Rosa City, Laguna. Grandmaster Darwin Laylo, ranked fourth in the Philippines, will compete in the Open division of the event, which supports the Rotary Club of Nuvali's Bright Eyes, Bright Future project.

According to Philippines News Agency, This initiative aims to provide free eyeglasses to 300 students with eye disorders at Pulong Sta. Cruz Elementary School. Notable participants include GM-elect Ronald Dableo, International Master Ricardo de Guzman, and several Fide Masters and National Masters. The tournament, sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines, will follow a seven-round Swiss system format. The event also features an Executive division, with prizes for the top ten players, including PHP20,000 and a trophy for the champion. The Open and Senior divisions offer similar cash prizes and trophies for the winners.
