Marcos Administration Intensifies Campaign Against Terrorism Following Soldiers’ Deaths

MANILA - President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has pledged to amplify efforts against terrorist groups in response to a recent attack that resulted in the deaths of six soldiers during a confrontation with the Islamic State-linked Dawlah Islamiyah-Maute Group (DI-MG) in Munai, Lanao del Norte on February 18. The President expressed his commitment to combating terrorism and honoring the sacrifices of the fallen soldiers in a statement released following the clash in a remote village.

According to Philippines News Agency, the bravery and heroism of the soldiers will not be forgotten, and the government will persist in the fight against those who threaten peace. Marcos Jr. assured the nation and the bereaved families of the government's recognition and support for the sacrifices made. The firefight involved members of the Philippine Army's 44th Infantry Battalion and resulted in six fatalities and four injuries among the soldiers, while engaging the DI group in Barangay Ramain. The 7th Scout Ranger Company of the 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion also participated in the operation against the DI-MG extremists.

The DI-MG, known for its activities along the boundary of Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur, poses a significant threat to regional stability and security. The Marcos administration's vow to intensify its anti-terrorism efforts reflects an ongoing commitment to peace and the safeguarding of the nation against extremist violence.
