Maguindanao del Norte Governor Urges BSKE Winners to Resolve Clan Feuds
Maguindanao del Norte – Governor Abdulraof Macacua has called on newly elected barangay officials in Maguindanao del Norte to actively engage in resolving ‘rido’ (family feuds), labeling it as un-Islamic and detrimental to development. Addressing over 400 village and youth officials at a mass oath-taking event on Thursday, Macacua emphasized the negative impact of clan wars on community progress.
According to Philippines News Agency, the officials were from North Upi, South Upi, Mother Kabuntalan, and Northern Kabuntalan.
Macacua highlighted the importance of village chairpersons in mediating and settling local disputes, urging them to be role models and to adopt the ‘moral governance’ approach promoted by the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) government. Formed in 2019 after a two-part referendum, BARMM replaced the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and includes several provinces, including Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur, as well as parts of North Cotabato province. The governor’s call reflects a broader initiative to foster peace and development in the region.
