International Volunteer Day 2024 Highlights Role of Volunteers in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
Bandar Seri Begawan: Volunteers are the agents of change who play an important role in together achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. In an era full of challenges at the national, regional, and global levels such as climate change, social inequality, and poverty, volunteers are the catalyst of creative and practical solutions for society. In a message in conjunction with the International Volunteer Day 2024, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports said that this year, focus is given towards various efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Initiative. Such efforts are inline with the aspirations of Wawasan Brunei 2035, specifically in strengthening an inclusive, harmonious, and sustainable society.
According to Radio Television Brunei, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad explained that volunteers not only act as support for the community, they are also strategic partners in the government’s efforts to ensure inclusive development. Cooperation between generations of
volunteers is vital in building a harmonious and resilient community. Every generation has its own unique perspective, experience, and manpower that when combined, they are capable of creating a bigger impact for society. Yang Berhormat called for more people to be involved in volunteer activities that involve the youth, organisations, and all parties. Such efforts will not only grow on the national level, but also at the regional and global levels. Cooperation among ASEAN Member States needs to be enhanced through a number of platforms such as the ASEAN Youth Volunteers Exchange that will allow the sharing of best practices in addressing challenges together.
