Post: Iloilo City to Allow Temporary Open Sidewalk Vending for Holidays

Iloilo City – In anticipation of the holiday season, the local government of Iloilo City has decided to permit temporary open sidewalk vending in selected streets from December 10 to 31. This initiative is part of a plan to stimulate economic activity during the festive period.

According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Jerry P. Treñas signed Executive Order Number 151, which sets out guidelines for open sidewalk vendors. The order acknowledges that vending along designated streets is a Filipino tradition during holidays and provides vendors with a source of livelihood. It is also seen as a platform for economic recovery. The identified areas for vending include streets along Iznart, J.M. Basa, Ledesma, and Valeria to Delgado in the City Proper district, as well as portions near Jaro Molo plazas and the Mandurriao district. However, outside these specified areas, sidewalk vending remains strictly prohibited. Vendors interested in setting up stalls must comply with several requirements, including obtaining clearance from the barangay where they plan to sell, a community tax certificate, special permit, anti-smoking signage, and a health card for those selling food. These measures are part of the city's efforts to regulate and maintain order during the sidewalk vending period.
