Ilocos Region Welcomes 238 New Police Officers Following Training Program

San Fernando City, La Union – The Ilocos Region has added 238 police officers to its force, following their graduation from the Public Safety Field Training Program (PSFTP).

According to Philippines News Agency, Brig. Gen. Lou Evangelista, the regional director of the Ilocos Police, addressed the graduates at the ceremony held at the Ilocos Police Regional Office on Monday. Evangelista emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards and evolving continually as a defense against negative influences that could undermine the police organization. He highlighted the service nature of the police profession and advised the new officers to be punctual, take pride in their uniforms, and avoid making decisions based solely on emotions.

Evangelista also stressed the significance of responsible policing, reminding the officers that their actions have long-term effects on the citizens they interact with. He urged them to prevent further victimization of individuals due to poor police practices and to familiarize themselves with the communities they serve.

According to the Ilocos Police Information Office, the newly graduated officers underwent their training at various police stations across Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur. The announcement regarding the specific areas of assignment for these new policemen will be made in the coming days.

The PSFTP, a compulsory six-month training program, is a requisite for all police trainees. It is a part of the process to secure permanent status within the police force, starting typically with the rank of patrolman or patrolwoman.
