According to Philippines News Agency, on Sunday, temperatures soared to 31.5 degrees Celsius (88.7 degrees Fahrenheit), equating to the highest levels for March since records commenced in 1884.
The weather observatory highlighted that temperatures even exceeded 32 degrees Celsius in northern parts of Hong Kong, adjacent to Shenzhen. An advisory issued predicts continued heat for Monday, attributed to a strong southerly airflow and abundant sunshine. Urban areas are expected to experience highs around 31 degrees Celsius, with slightly higher temperatures forecasted for the New Territories.
Authorities have issued health warnings in response to the heatwave, advising the public to remain vigilant, avoid prolonged sun exposure, and maintain hydration. This event follows the trend of rising temperatures in Hong Kong, which witnessed its hottest summer on record in 2023, underscoring ongoing concerns about climate change and its impacts on the region.
