Post: Filipinos Prioritize Long Weekends and Rich Experiences in Travel Choices

MANILA – A recent study reveals that long weekends and the pursuit of unique experiences are the primary factors influencing Filipino travelers' decisions for both domestic and international journeys.

According to Philippines News Agency, an impressive 73% of Filipino respondents indicated they strategically use long weekends for vacations, opting for staycations and various activities during these extended breaks. Furthermore, 63% of those intending to travel in 2024 have already secured their bookings, aligning their plans with upcoming long weekends and holidays.

Michelle Ho, General Manager of Klook Philippines, highlighted a significant uptick in platform usage, with bookings tripling from the previous year and average expenditure per user rising by 21% in 2023. She attributed this growth to a resurgent interest in travel and exploration post-pandemic, emphasizing that Filipinos are enthusiastically embracing the renewed opportunity to engage in tourism.

The survey also noted a trend towards more deliberate and experience-focused travel planning among Filipinos. For instance, the high demand for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour packages in Singapore, including a notable 10% of purchases from Filipino travelers, exemplifies the willingness to invest in special experiences.

Domestically, locations like Tagaytay, Baguio, Batangas, Boracay, and Palawan continue to attract Filipino tourists, especially those seeking convenient access from Metro Manila. The popularity of road trips with small groups further underscores the preference for close-knit and experience-rich travel.

Looking ahead, 92% of respondents expressed intentions to embark on domestic travels in 2024, typically allocating budgets between PHP 15,000 and PHP 30,000 for trips lasting four to six days. On the international front, 76% are planning excursions, with popular destinations including Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, and Thailand. These trips often focus on activities like sightseeing, shopping, and outdoor adventures, with budgets ranging from PHP 15,000 to PHP 50,000.

Social media continues to play a pivotal role in shaping travel decisions, particularly among younger generations, with platforms like Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram serving as key sources of travel inspiration and information.
