San Jose, Antique – Officials from the Department of Education Schools Division Office of Antique have urged simplicity in upcoming graduation and moving up ceremonies across the province, advising against the practice of giving money bouquets and garlands.
According to Philippines News Agency, DepED Antique Schools Management Monitoring and Evaluation Education Program Specialist II, the reminder applies to all 537 public elementary and secondary schools as well as the 69 private schools in Antique, which are commencing their ceremonies starting today. Cortejo emphasized the need for modest celebrations, noting the financial disparities among families that could lead to discomfort or issues among students.
During a recognition event on Wednesday, it was noted that such practices, while celebratory, may not be affordable for all parents, prompting the call for restraint. Cortejo also advised schools against requiring special performances that might necessitate expensive costumes and discouraged obligatory contributions for food, stage decorations, or other expenses, unless these are made voluntarily by parents.
This year, approximately 35,278 learners from Grade 12, Grade 10, and Grade 6 are expected to participate in these ceremonies, marking significant educational milestones in a manner that aims to be inclusive and considerate of all economic backgrounds.
