Post: Davao City Bolsters Security for Araw ng Dabaw Celebrations

DAVAO CITY — Approximately 8,415 security personnel will be deployed throughout Davao City to ensure the safety of participants and spectators during the month-long 87th Araw ng Dabaw celebrations. Angel Sumagaysay, head of the Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO), stated in an interview on Monday that the majority of the security force will focus on the Parada Dabawenyo and Mutya ng Dabaw events, with around 7,050 integrated security personnel deployed from March 1 until March 17.

According to Philippines News Agency, Sumagaysay mentioned that special events receiving mayor's permits and those expected to draw large crowds necessitate additional security measures. The PSSO has conducted security coordination meetings in preparation for the festivities, with the City Tourism Operations Office playing a key role in the planning process.

The Araw ng Dabaw celebration will maintain standard security protocols, including restrictions on carrying backpacks, large bags, laser lights, firearms, and making bomb jokes. The public is also advised against bringing sharp objects, consuming alcohol, and smoking in public areas during the events. Sumagaysay specifically cautioned against bringing infants and small children to any event and reminded attendees to remove jackets and sunglasses for security inspections.

During a send-off ceremony on February 29, Mayor Sebastian "Baste" Duterte expressed his gratitude to all security and safety personnel for their dedication to keeping Davao City secure during the celebrations. The extensive security preparations underscore the city's commitment to ensuring a safe and orderly Araw ng Dabaw for both residents and visitors.
