A local man was charged in the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate’s Court on a count under Section 146(i)(d) of the Excise Order 2006.
The accused, Omar @ Ya’akob Bin Radang, aged 61, was found guilty of possessing 67 cartons and 646 packets of cigarettes of various brands. The accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a fine of $130,600 or 21 months imprisonment if in default. All items were confiscated to be destroyed. Meanwhile, cash amounting to $27.50 and $662 dollars from the proceeds of cigarette sales were confiscated and handed over to the government for further action.
