Cebu City Demolishes Skywalk for Bus Rapid Transit Project Construction
CEBU CITY – One of the two skywalks along Osmeña Boulevard in Cebu City was demolished on Friday, clearing the path for the construction of the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project.
According to Philippines News Agency, the beams of the main structure, which includes two separate concrete footbridges, were dismantled but will be reconstructed at the South Road Properties (SRP). Guardo stated, “The road is now temporarily closed for the works.” He, along with engineers from the Hunan Road and Bridges Construction, supervised both the demolition and the ongoing reconstruction at SRP.
The traffic flow for vehicles along Fuente Osmeña up to Arlington Pond Street has been diverted, with closures in effect, while vehicles from B. Rodriguez to Colon Street are being directed through Ramos St. Engineer Jomar Doque, the focal person for the BRT Phase 1 project, mentioned that the demolition of two skywalks is expected to take 18 days. Doque committed to completing the clearing of the first skywalk by February 18. Additionally, a second skywalk near the Cebu Normal University is slated for dismantlement, with plans to reuse its main structure at the SRP area.
