Post: Calabarzon Police Honor Retiring Bomb-Sniffing Dog with Ceremony

Calabarzon—Jack, a Labrador Retriever who served the Police Regional Office-Calabarzon as part of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Group, has officially retired. The 7 and 1/2-year-old dog was honored with a retirement ceremony at Camp Vicente Lim, marking the end of his five years of service in the bomb squad.

According to Philippines News Agency, acting regional director for administration, Jack's retirement took effect on June 1. During the ceremony, Jack was awarded a plaque of recognition for his service. "In bidding farewell to Jack, we express not only our gratitude but also our admiration for his faithful service, loyalty, and sacrifices made for our safety and security," Abrecia stated. Jack's handler, S/Staff Sgt. Shane Angelo Parreno, also received cash as she gets to keep the K-9. Despite not wearing a numbered badge, Jack was identified through a microchip.

The event was part of the Philippine National Police's "Salamat, kaibigan (Thank you, friend)" program, celebrating the contributions of police service animals.
