5th APEC Meeting of Ministers Responsible For Forestry

Global efforts in addressing the effects of climate change through increasing carbon absorption and expediting efforts in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals were among the main cores of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, APEC, underlined during the 5th APEC Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Forestry. At the virtual meeting, the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism stressed that sustainable forest management plays a vital role in balancing the importance of forests in the economic, social and environmental aspects.

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism said Brunei Darussalam will continue to enhance close cooperation in the APEC region to ensure that forests remain sustainably managed. Also shared at the meeting was Brunei Darussalam's action plan in ensuring the country's forests remain intact and resilient by gazetting forests as national forest reserves. APEC Economy Ministers also issued a joint statement called the 'Chiang Mai Statement' and took note on the achievements of the APEC 2020 Forest Cover Goal. The meeting was held in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
