The Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre (PJSC) in cooperation with Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) and Jerudong Park Country Club, JPCC Sendirian Berhad, yesterday morning organised Breast Cancer Awareness Roadshow Event. The event aimed to promote awareness on Breast Cancer, one of the top killer diseases that affects women in Brunei, and to raised funds where proceeds collected from the event will be given to the Brunei Breast Cancer Support Group (BBCSG).

The event was officiated by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Md Isham bin Haji Jaafar, the Minister of Health as the Deputy Chairman of PJSC. Also present were Dato Seri Paduka Awang Ahmaddin bin Haji Abd Rahman, Deputy Minister of Finance and Awang Haji Abdul Manap bin Othman, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health.

Dato Seri Laila Jasa Doctor Babu Sukumaran, Medical Director of PJSC who is also the Director of Brunei Cancer Centre in his speech said about 130 new cases are diagnosed per year in Brunei, and the numbers are increasing over the years, that is 2 to 3 new cases per week. He added, public education is important, so that people will be able to get over the fears and phobias to seek early attention, to look for early signs and symptoms as well as to seek professional help.

A video presentation on breast cancer survivors was launched during the event. The event coincided with a cheque presentation to the Minister of Health. The cheque was presented by Awang Haji Mohd Yusri bin Haji Wahsalfelah, Head of Government Relations and Special Projects of BIBD. Members of the public were given the opportunity to conduct free health screening including glucose check-ups and breast self-examination during the roadshow.
