ZAMBOANGA CITY - Supt. Xavier Solda of the Zamboanga City Jail Male Dormitory has been honored as the City Jail Warden of the Year, an accolade announced by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) this Sunday.
According to Philippines News Agency, Supt. Solda will receive his award during the 33rd BJMP anniversary celebration at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City on Monday. BJMP Director Ruel Rivera praised Solda's implementation of management reforms that align with the bureau’s objectives to enhance rehabilitation processes within jail facilities. These initiatives include the establishment of the BJMP's first physiotherapy services clinic aimed at aiding inmates who have suffered strokes.
Furthermore, Solda was instrumental in founding the Madrasah Al Ertiqa, an Islamic school within the jail that recently celebrated its first graduation of 74 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) this January. He also led the creation of the BJMP’s first Digital Transparency Board, which provides inmates with accessible, real-time information about their cases.
Highlighting his international recognition, the International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA) awarded Solda the Outstanding Correctional Service Employee award in October 2023. This prestigious global award, presented in Antwerp, Belgium, acknowledged his significant contributions to improving the conditions and lives of those incarcerated in the Philippines.
