Vilma Santos-Recto Nominated for Order of National Artist in Film and Broadcast Arts


MANILA — Vilma Santos-Recto, celebrated Filipino actor, has been formally nominated for the prestigious Order of National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts, as announced by Dingdong Dantes, president of the League of Filipino Actors (Aktor), during a press conference at The Manila Hotel.



According to Philippines News Agency, the nomination, complete with supporting documents and video materials, was submitted to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) in Intramuros on Thursday. Santos-Recto, who began her acting career at nine with the film ‘Trudis Liit’, has remained active in the industry for six decades. Dantes highlighted her enduring influence, professionalism, and significant contributions to Filipino culture and national identity. Other dignitaries, including former Department of Education undersecretaries Tonisito Umali and Jesus Mateo, also supported her nomination, citing her impactful roles and dedication to educational and social issues during her terms in government.



The nomination is supported by numerous educational institutions, professional groups, and fan clubs, recognizing her broad impact and legacy in both entertainment and public service. The final decision on her nomination is expected within the next 12 to 18 months, during which her extensive body of work and contributions to the cultural heritage of the Philippines will be reviewed.
