Vice President Urges Cross-Sector Collaboration for Advancing Philippines’ Semiconductor and Electronics Industry
Pasay City — Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Z. Duterte has called for a closer alliance between educational institutions and the semiconductor and electronics industry to better serve the evolving needs of the sector.
According to Philippines News Agency, educational curricula could be enriched through partnerships with industry stakeholders to prepare students for the workforce effectively.
Duterte highlighted the potential for resource sharing, joint research initiatives, internships, and workshops led by industry experts. “These collaborations bridge the gap between academia and industry, ensuring that education remains industry-relevant and students gain practical exposure and experience,” she said.
The Vice President also pointed out that educational institutions have a role to play in fostering entrepreneurship within the industry. Offering courses that nurture business acumen and promote innovation could be one way to contribute to the industry’s growth. “Providing mentorship, access to incubators, and networking opportunities can empower aspiring entrepreneurs to establish their own ventures,” said Duterte.
She underscored the significant role of research and development in both sectors. “By investing in research and development and facilitating collaborative research projects between academia and industry, educational institutions can contribute to advancing technology, improving product quality, and developing new solutions,” Duterte elaborated.
Duterte attended the Philippine Semiconductor and Electronics Convention and Exhibition on October 25 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City. There, she encouraged industry stakeholders to participate in the Department of Education’s ongoing curriculum review for Grades 11 and 12. She emphasized that the industry has a valuable opportunity to influence educational content, ensuring it aligns with current workforce needs and demands.
