Fifty solo parents from Camalig town in Albay province will soon start a small home-based business after they finished a training on dishwashing liquid-making. Tim Florece, Camalig information office chief, said in a report over the weekend that the initiative of the local government unit through its municipal social welfare and development office supports the federation of solo parents through a sustainable livelihood program. "The initiative seeks to offer solo parents the practical knowledge and expertise required to start a small home-based business. The starter kits were provided to the participants last Friday in order to help them immediately start generating income, with the long-term objective of promoting economic stability," he said. Each starter kit includes chemicals, soap, bottles and measuring cups, among others. Camalig Mayor Carlos Irwin Baldo Jr. lauded the resiliency of solo parents, given that they need to balance their time between earning and performing family duties. He urged them to motivate their children to embark on business ventures. 'Magtapos sa pagklase para mag negosyo, indi pwede na nakatapos lang sinda. Dapat ayo sinda option na mas sustainable (Finish their studies and have a business, not just finish it. They have to have an option for sustainability)," he said.
