PPA Assists Family of Bohol Ferry Crew Fatality with Benefits and Aid

BOHOL—The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has announced coordinated efforts to provide financial assistance and benefits to the family of Marcelo Casulocan, a ferry crew member who tragically died in Bohol. Casulocan was fatally injured by the vessel's propeller after falling overboard on February 23.

According to Philippines News Agency, Ocean Fast Ferries Inc., the operator of MV Ocean Jet 888 where the incident occurred, has extended financial support to the victim's family, facilitated by the PPA-Port Management Office (PMO) Bohol.

Efforts are underway to process all applicable insurance benefits for the deceased, ensuring that his family receives the support they are entitled to during this difficult time. A wreath-laying ceremony at the Port of Tagbilaran was conducted in Casulocan's honor, attended by representatives from Ocean Fast Ferries Inc., the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and PPA operations and port police personnel. The incident was initially reported by port police at PMO Bohol, leading to a review of closed-circuit television footage which confirmed the circumstances leading to Casulocan's death. This tragic event underscores the importance of safety measures and support systems for maritime workers and their families.
