PHP1.63 Million in Unpermitted Agri Goods Seized at NAIA
MANILA — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has successfully confiscated agricultural products valued at PHP1.63 million, which lacked the necessary import permits, in a coordinated effort at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
According to Philippines News Agency, the seizures involved two separate shipments brought by Japanese nationals, conducted last week. These shipments failed to present the required Sanitary and Phytosanitary Import Clearance (SPSIC) from key regulatory bodies including the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
The first intercepted shipment on August 8 included 527.1 kg of fresh beef, 26.5 kg of fresh chicken, 57.1 kg of assorted fruits and vegetables, and 57.1 kg of fishery products. The following day, authorities captured another shipment containing 140.2 kg of meat and meat products, 10 eggs, 165 kg of assorted fruits, plants, and vegetables, and 235.5 kg of assorted fishery products.
Commissioner Rubio emphasized that all seized items have been handed over to the respective authorities—BAI, BPI, and BFAR—for appropriate disposal, ensuring that these unpermitted goods do not pose any health risks or negatively impact the local food industry. He highlighted that these operations reflect the strengthened collaboration between the BOC and the Department of Agriculture’s Intelligence and Enforcement Service (IES), aiming to safeguard Philippine borders from the influx of unauthorized and potentially harmful goods.
