PHLPost Releases Commemorative Stamps Featuring Manila Central Post Office

Manila — The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) has unveiled a new series of ASEAN Post commemorative stamps, highlighting the Manila Central Post Office (MCPO) building as part of a collaborative effort to mark the Joint Issue of the General ASEAN Post Office 2024.

According to Philippines News Agency, the release features the facades of main post office buildings from ten ASEAN nations as symbols of unity, integration, and cooperation among member states. The MCPO, built in 1926 and one of Manila’s most distinguished landmarks, represents the Philippines in this regional initiative. The stamps aim to promote Philippine history and culture across ASEAN countries, including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The issuance of these stamps comes after a significant event last year when a fire severely damaged the MCPO in May 2023. Plans are currently underway to reconstruct the iconic building by 2026, coinciding with its 100th anniversary, to restore it as a symbol of national pride and historical significance.
