Personal Data Protection Order 2025 Implementation Announced
Bandar Seri Begawan: In the Minister Statement on efforts to create a safer cyber or digital environment, Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications explained on the implementation of the Personal Data Protection Order 2025 which will be carried out in stages particularly in providing a one-year grace period for the overall compliance with the order.
According to Radio Television Brunei, Yang Berhormat stated that the Order is important in terms of digital data policy and governance as a strategic enabler in Brunei Darussalam’s digital transformation journey, as has been identified in the Digital Economy Masterplan 2025. The Order also acts as a complement to the data sharing guidelines among government departments and agencies introduced in 2023. The Personal Data Protection Order 2025 aims to address the policy, legal and regulatory framework requirements for personal data protection and data governance among non-governmental organisations and the private sector.
