Bandar seri begawan: The country is currently experiencing hazy conditions attributed to predominant hotspots in the Borneo Region. These conditions have been exacerbated by the prevailing south-westerly winds carrying the haze towards Brunei Darussalam. This phenomenon is common during the Southwest monsoon period, according to the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department. The Pollutant Standard Index readings recorded across all air quality monitoring stations in the four districts have been higher than normal.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the air quality in Brunei Darussalam remains at a good to moderate level. The Ministry of Health has advised that at moderate PSI readings, individuals may experience minor health effects such as coughs, eye irritations, and runny noses. Those with asthma, lung and heart diseases, pregnant women, children, the elderly, and individuals with dust allergies are advised to minimize outdoor physical activities.
The Department of Environment, Parks, and Recreation will continue to update the public on the air quality situation. Residents are encouraged to contact the Fire and Rescue Department at 995 immediately if they observe any incidences of bush and forest fires. Further details on PSI readings can be obtained from the Department of Environment, Parks, and Recreation. For the latest weather information, the public can contact the weather line at 114, use the Brunei WX mobile application, or visit the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department’s website.
