Post: Dumaguete City Enhances Seawall to Combat Erosion on Rizal Boulevard

DUMAGUETE CITY — The local government has announced the construction of a seawall wave deflector along Rizal Boulevard in Dumaguete City, aiming to protect the popular walkway from erosion and damage. Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo revealed plans for the PHP54-million project, which is scheduled to start soon and complete by year-end.

According to Philippines News Agency, the project will extend 257 meters in length and will be expanded eight meters towards the sea, totaling 12 meters from the existing walkway. The height of the current seawall will be preserved. Once finished, the enhanced structure will connect seamlessly with the existing Pantawan 1 and Pantawan 2 People's Park.

"The project is crucial not only for protecting the walkway from erosion but also for safeguarding boulevard users during high tides and storm surges," stated Mayor Remollo. He also noted that the project does not require an Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, as it is similar to road widening. Instead, a Certificate of Non-Coverage from the DENR is sufficient to move forward with the construction.
