DHSUD and Meralco Forge Partnership to Power Pambansang Pabahay Housing Projects
MANILA – The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) has teamed up with the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) to provide essential power infrastructure for the Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program, a key initiative under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s administration aimed at enhancing living conditions for Filipinos.
According to Philippines News Agency, DHSUD Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar and Meralco Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer Ronnie Aperocho signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on July 17, committing to develop and deliver efficient electric services to 4PH project sites within Meralco’s coverage areas. This partnership marks a significant step in ensuring that the upcoming housing communities are well-equipped with necessary utilities.
In his address during the signing, Acuzar emphasized that the 4PH program is designed to go beyond just building affordable and quality homes. It aims to create sustainable communities with complete services to uplift the lives of underprivileged Filipinos. “We view our collaboration with Meralco as a significant leap toward our mission. Meralco’s commitment to provide reliable, safe, and efficient electric services directly contributes to the betterment of housing communities in major urban areas in the country,” Acuzar stated.
Meralco has pledged full support for the rollout of the 4PH Program, particularly in the National Capital Region and nearby areas. The company also plans to engage new homeowners through educational initiatives about their rights and responsibilities as electric consumers.
The MOU includes the formation of a technical working group tasked with ensuring timely electrification of the 4PH projects. This group will also focus on enhancing the customer experience for the beneficiaries. Acuzar highlighted that this agreement represents a crucial advancement for the 4PH program, aiming to rectify past issues related to power supply in government housing projects.
Further detailing the broader vision of the initiative, Acuzar added, “Sa Pambansang Pabahay, we are pushing not just for housing construction but for the promotion of township development with complete facilities and services for residents. President Marcos’ directive is to establish flourishing and sustainable township developments under the New Philippines.”
The MOU signing event was witnessed by several high-profile figures, including Social Housing and Finance Corp. President Federico Laxa and National Housing Authority General Manager Joeben Tai, among other DHSUD and Meralco officials. Looking ahead, DHSUD is keen to explore the integration of sustainable energy solutions in its projects, leveraging Meralco’s expertise and extensive network in the power sector.
