Consumer Price Index Decreases in June 2024 Despite Food Price Rise
BRUNEI DARUSSALAM — The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Brunei Darussalam registered a decrease of 0.3% in June 2024 compared to June 2023, largely influenced by a drop in the Non-Food index, while Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages saw an increase.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the Non-Food index fell by 0.7%, driven by lower prices in internet services within the Communication category and reductions in motor car and airfare prices in the Transport category. Conversely, the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index rose by 1.2%, attributed mainly to increases in the prices of Non-Alcoholic Beverages, particularly ready-to-consume drinks, and Milk, Dairy Products, and Eggs.
Despite the overall monthly decrease, the CPI for June 2024 showed an increase from the previous month, following a rise in the Non-Food index. However, the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index experienced a decrease in the same period. The full CPI report for June 2024 is also accessible on the DEPS’s website at ‘deps.mofe.gov.bn’.
