Lanao del Sur — A candidate for village chair in Lanao del Sur was fatally shot by his own brother following an altercation within a voting precinct in Butig, Lanao del Sur on Monday morning.
According to Philippines News Agency, Col. Robert Daculan, the deceased has been identified as Madid Bao, who was vying for the chairmanship of Barangay Poktan against his brother Jamael.
The police report indicates that Madid Bao was the husband of the incumbent village chairperson Conaipa Bao, who is currently serving her last term. The fatal shooting occurred at 7 a.m., and Madid Bao succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the Amai Pakpak Medical Center in Marawi City. Initial investigations revealed that Jamael was already inside the voting precinct when Madid entered and confronted him. A heated argument ensued between the siblings, during which Jamael complained about Madid possessing a .45-caliber pistol. The confrontation escalated when Madid struck Jamael on the head with his pistol, leading to a scuffle that concluded with Madid being shot in the chest.
Authorities said that relatives and supporters immediately rushed Madid to the hospital. Jamael attempted to flee the scene but was swiftly apprehended by police. In a separate but nearby incident at Bayabao Central School in Butig, Lanao del Sur, two voters were killed by unidentified gunmen before 7 a.m. The police are continuing to investigate both incidents.
