Bandar Seri Begawan: The Department of Immigration and National Registration (JIPK) through the Law Enforcement Division carried out three “Operasi Panyap” targeting several locations in Brunei Darussalam.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the operations focused in Mukim Berakas ‘A’ and rental rooms in Mukim Sengkurong resulted in the arrest of two foreigners. These individuals were believed to have overstayed in the country after their immigration passes had expired, failed to produce any valid documents, and were working for different employers.
In addition, two more foreigners were arrested in Mukim Kilanas. One of these individuals was suspected of re-entering the country after being legally deported, while the other failed to produce any valid documents.
Operations in Brunei waters and fish cages in Mukim Kota Batu also led to the arrest of another foreigner. This individual was found without valid documents and was working in a position other than that stated in his passport.
The JIPK also highlighted a prosecution session involving a Malaysian man, Huong Yew Siong. He was sentenced to four months of imprisonment and three strokes of whipping after pleading guilty to two offenses: entering and staying in the country without a valid immigration pass and failing to produce his passport to an Immigration Officer on duty when entering the country. The sentence took effect on 19th May.
