Brunei Darussalam Reaffirms Commitment to Food Safety at Shanghai Conference

Shanghai: Brunei Darussalam reaffirmed its strong commitment to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) framework, emphasizing that food safety is not only a national responsibility but a shared global commitment. Additionally, the importance of deepening international collaboration to ensure safe, seamless, and trusted agri-food trade was highlighted. The Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism underscored the matter during the Conference on Import and Export Food Safety Cooperation of the Belt and Road 2025, recently held in Shanghai, the People’s Republic of China.

According to Radio Television Brunei, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin also highlighted Brunei Darussalam’s national efforts in strengthening food safety and trade through the Brunei Darussalam Food Authority (BDFA) and the adoption of Good Agricultural, Aquaculture, and Animal Husbandry Practices. Yang Berhormat also emphasized Brunei Darussalam’s active role in ASEAN and BRI initiatives that collectively reinforce the shared objective of ensuring food that is safe, traceable, and trusted across borders.

On the side-lines of the Conference, Yang Berhormat also held a meeting with Her Excellency Sun Meijun, Minister and CPC Committee Member of the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China. Both sides reiterated their commitments in deepening bilateral cooperation, particularly in facilitating greater market access and trade of agricultural, fisheries, and agri-food products. Also joining the delegation was His Excellency Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Pahlawan Retired Colonel Dato Paduka Haji Abdu’r Rahmani bin Dato Paduka Haji Basir, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the People’s Republic of China.
